Slow Living isn’t an Escape — It’s a Responsibility

The purpose of money is to remain in constant circulation, not to be instrument for hoarding wealth and power. But unfortunately the modern socio economic system has evolved to incentivize saving at an individual level while collectively destroying ecosystems that guarantee a healthy future for our children.

By choosing the lowest priced industrially produced produce instead of organic whole produce, we are doing disservice to the basic necessity of life – food. Food isn’t about nutrients and calories alone – agriculture is the foundation of human existence. If the base of civilization is weak, the pyramid won’t remain standing forever, will it?

This realization was one of the major reasons for the switch from a consumer filled, convenience chasing lifestyle to a minimalistic simple living in a farm regenerating soil health.

The idea was not to retire early and lead a life of comfort looking at beautiful sunsets, have a coffee whenever we feel like, read books and pursue a hobby that we didn’t get to during yester years. While those are things that we do get to do in this slow life, they weren’t the primary motivators. The objectives with which we embarked on a farm life in Tirunelveli district was reducing wealth & gender inequality, growing poison free food honestly and improving soil organic carbon as the years progress.

We know that whatever work we do will only be a drop in the ocean. The universe is too large and doesn’t care about the causes & effects of every individual action. But I sleep well every night because I know that I am not propagating violence on account of of my daily deeds and I am contributing towards building a better future for my children than what I inherited.
