It’s calving season here in our farm. We welcomed two beautiful female calves last month. We’ve named them Parvathi, Gowri’s calf and Ponmani, Kanmani’s calf. It is so much fun watching three calves jump around the cowshed and grow up together! We wanted to share a photo of all three together but they start running the moment we go near them. We have two more pregnant cows but unsure when they will reach full term.
We are getting intermittent rains from Southwest monsoon. Our well water was at a very low point and we were worried about irrigation our trees. The rain has come in the right time to save us. But the Aadi winds also took down a couple of red bananas trees 😦
We’ve planted more turmeric with mother roots bought from a fellow organic farmer friend and sowed some vegetable seeds along with them. Our sugarcane plot has been destroyed bady by porcupines. They’ve broken most of the tender growing canes. This is the second time this year and we are slowly losing hope in growing cane.
We also harvested coconuts after 2.5 months after previous harvest. Realised that we should have delayed this by another month. The intermittent rains and less meaty coconuts makes it difficult to sun dry for oil without any fungal infestation. But skies have cleared up in the last few days, let’s hope for the best!

Farming does not sound that easy as it looks in movies. Particularly if located near wild life areas. At some point will focus on growing vegetables in a small patch using organic manure, Solar electricity etc
